International Scientific and Technical Forum
The International Scientific and Technical Forum «Medelectronics-2014» took place at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics (BSUIR) in Minsk on December 10–11, 2014. More than 150 scientists and physicians from 11 countries gathered to discuss information technology applications in modern medicine.
The forum brought together researchers and medical professionals to review the latest developments at the intersection of technology and healthcare. Topics spanned mobile health applications, digital diagnostic tools, and assistive devices designed to improve patient outcomes and expand access to care. As rector Mikhail Batura noted at the opening: «Modern medicine cannot develop without modern technologies and methods.»
Hearing Aid Technologies on Mobile Platforms
Particular attention was given to smartphone-based medical solutions — especially relevant in regions where access to specialised clinical equipment remains limited. Presentations explored how consumer hardware can deliver healthcare functions previously available only through expensive dedicated devices, covering techniques such as self-diagnostic audiometry, dynamic range compression, and acoustic feedback suppression.
Among the research presented, a paper by BSUIR researchers M. Vashkevich, I. Azarov, D. Likhachev and A. Petrovsky described the implementation of a digital hearing aid on modern multimedia platforms — realised on iOS and Windows 7. The work provided an academic basis for smartphone-based hearing assistance of the kind that Petralex continues to develop. The full paper is available in the BSUIR digital library.
